Cynllun Arloesol yn newid trywydd | Innovative project changes direction

Mae cynllun sydd wedi ei ddatblygu i ysbrydoli ac i roi blas i ddisgyblion ar faes STEM (Gwyddoniaeth, Technoleg, Peirianneg a Mathamateg) wedi newid trywydd o ganlyniad i’r sefyllfa ynghylch y Coronafeirws.

Mae STEM Gogledd yn brosiect a ariennir yn rhannol gan gronfa Gymdeithasol Ewrop trwy Lywodraeth Cymru. Mae’r prosiect yn cynnig cyfleoedd cyffrous i ddisgyblion 11-19 oed ar draws Gwynedd, Ynys Môn a Conwy i ddysgu mwy am STEM, eu hysbrydoli a’u hannog i ystyried pwysigrwydd pynciau STEM a’u perthnasedd i yrfaoedd posib yn y dyfodol.

Nod y Prosiect hefyd yw helpu ysgolion i lywio trwy’r holl Weithgareddau Allgyrsiol STEM ac i’w galluogi i fanteisio’n llawn ar yr hyn sydd ar gael.

Ymysg buddiannau’r prosiect bydd disgyblion ar draws y tair sir yn derbyn cefnogaeth 1-1 gan dîm ymroddedig o Fentoriaid STEM yn ogystal â chael Mynediad i borth ar-lein, Hwb STEM ar gyfer canfod gwybodaeth am bopeth STEM.

O ganlyniad i’r Coronafeirws ac ysgolion wedi cau, mae’r Tîm sy’n gyfrifol am y cynllun wedi mynd ati i ailfeddwl sut mae modd ymgysylltu a disgyblion mewn ffyrdd amgen a cheisio parhau i ysbrydoli ac annog.

Dywedodd Rheolwr Rhanbarthol STEM Gogledd, Dyfed Jones:

“Wrth wynebu’r her nad ydi disgyblion yn yr ysgol er mwyn gallu derbyn cefnogaeth fe aethom ni ati i edrych ar sut y buasem ni’n gallu cadw y gwasanaeth mewn lle ond gweithredu mewn ffurf wahanol.”

Mae’r tîm wedi cadw mewn cyswllt efo’r disgyblion oedd yn derbyn cefnogaeth ac wedi mynd ati i lunio cyfres o wythnosau gweithgaredd diddorol sy’n seiliedig ar STEM ac ar sectorau allweddol y Bartneriaeth Sgiliau Rhanbarthol yma yng Ngogledd Cymru.

Dywedodd David Roberts, Cadeirydd Partneriaeth Sgiliau Rhanbarthol Gogledd Cymru:

“Mae gwneud yn siŵr fod y sgiliau STEM addas gennym ni yma yng Ngogledd Cymru yn hollbwysig. Mae hi’n wych gweld STEM Gogledd yn addasu eu cynnig ac yn defnyddio’r Sectorau Allweddol i fframio hynny yng nghyd destun STEM.”

Meddai Tanya Jones, un o’r tri mentor STEM:

“Mi ydym ni fel Mentoriaid STEM  wedi ceisio ail-greu elfennau o’r gefnogaeth oedd yn cael ei gynnig drwy ddefnyddio dulliau rhithiol ac hefyd drwy wneud defnydd o’r cyfryngau cymdeithasol i rannu negeseuon a lincs defnyddiol ar HWB STEM Gogledd stemgogledd.cymru  ma na waith gwych yn mynd ymlaen i ddangos bo ni dal yma!”

Yn ôl y Cynghorydd Dyfrig Siencyn, Cadeirydd Bwrdd uchelgais Economaidd Gogledd Cymru:

“Mewn cyfnod mor heriol mae hi’n bwysicach fyth fod cefnogaeth tebyg i STEM Gogledd yn parhau er mwyn galluogi dyfodol llewyrchus i economi Gogledd Cymru.”

Mae STEM Gogledd yn derbyn cefnogaeth gan Awdurdodau Lleol Gwynedd, Ynys Môn a Conwy yn ogystal â Magnox a’r Awdurdod Datgomisiynu Niwclear. Ar hyn o bryd mae disgwyl i’r Prosiect redeg tan Hydref 2022.

A scheme that has been developed to inspire and give pupils a taste of the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) has changed direction as a result of the situation regarding Coronavirus.

STEM Gogledd is a project partly funded by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government, which offers exciting opportunities for 11-19 year olds across Gwynedd, Anglesey and Conwy to learn more about STEM, inspire them and encourage them to think the importance of STEM subjects and their relevance to potential future careers.

The Project also aims to help schools navigate through a wealth of STEM Extracurricular Activities and to enable them to take full advantage of what’s available.

Benefits of the project include pupils across the 3 counties receiving 1-1 support from a dedicated team of STEM Mentors as well as accessing an online portal, STEM Hub for finding out everything STEM.

As a result of Coronavirus and school closures, the Team responsible for the scheme has set about rethinking how to engage with pupils in alternative ways and seek to continue to inspire and encourage.

STEM Gogledd Regional Manager Dyfed Jones said:

“When faced with the challenge of pupils not being at school in order to receive support we looked at how we could keep the service in place but operate in a different format.”

The team has kept in touch with the pupils receiving support and has devised a series of interesting activity weeks based on STEM and the key sectors of the Regional Skills Partnership here in North Wales.

David Roberts, Chair of the North Wales Regional Skills Partnership, said:

“Making sure we have the right STEM skills here in North Wales is vital. It’s great to see STEM Gogledd adapt their offerings and use the Key Sectors to frame that in the context of STEM.”

Tanya Jones, one of the three STEM mentors, said:

“We as STEM Mentors have worked  to recreate elements of the support we offered through using a variety of virtual methods and also by using social media to share useful messages and links through the STEM Gogledd Hub stemgogledd.cymru  ”

According to Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn, Chair of the North Wales Economic Ambition Board:

“In such challenging times it is even more important that support similar to STEM Gogledd continues to enable a prosperous future for the North Wales economy.”

STEM Gogledd is supported by Gwynedd, Anglesey and Conwy Local Authorities as well as Magnox and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. The Project is currently scheduled to run until October 2022.
